"Cane, Murrine, and Beyond"

This course is designed for individuals who would like to explore some advanced techniques involving cane and murrini. Through the combination of hands-on instruction, demonstrations and studio practice, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of these unique traditional furnace techniques from the island of Murano. Students will learn the process of pulling cane to make murine and cane bundles.
Students will also see demonstrations on how to create tubes of color and or cane for the use in production style glass making. We'll explore how these patterns can be combined with form, texture, and color during our discussions. By the end of the course, students will have an understanding, and the confidence necessary, to create unique glass objects.
Previous glass experience is recommended for this course
This class meets from 9am to 5pm each day, Monday through Friday, with additional studio time Monday through Thursday, from 5pm to 9pm. Materials for participating in the course are included. If you have specific colors you are interested in working with please bring them with you.
His work reflects techniques that are traditional to the island of Murano, Italy-including the use of both cane and murrine. Many of his works also include glass cutting patterns called Batutto-a technique that is also from Venice.
Currently, Chris resides in Corning, New York and is a full time artist and owner of GIOSTUDIO Glass. His works have been shown in a variety of venues including The Studio at The Corning Museum of Glass, Gilford Art Center, The West End Gallery, Brooklyn Waterfronts Artists Coalition, The Arts Council of The Southern Finger Lakes, 171 Cedar Arts Center and The John Michael Kohler Art Center. Chris's work is also available at The Shops in the Corning Museum of Glass.

Additional Information
- Participation limited to students 18 years of age and up.
- Lunch is available for an additional fee; $100 for 5-day workshops.
- Classes meet 9 am to 5 pm each day. Students will have additional practice time the first four evenings of the course, Monday through Thursday, from 5 pm to 9 pm.
- Materials for participating in the course are included. If you have specific colors you are interested in working with please bring them with you.
- Any work from the final day of the course remaining in a kiln will be available for pick up beginning the following Monday. Students may have finished worked shipped for an additional fee.
